Wrapping Up

This time when very fast. At times I was in a panic because I felt that I was falling behind.
Some of the exercises were fun, some where a real chore.
Although I use a computer at work--being in Circulation--what I use it for is not something that I would need at lot of these applications.
Using it at home--it is almost all for fun.
I can see alot of these program would come in handy from a reference standpoint, or if I were a student.
So I tended to enjoy the more fun programs--some of which I already use.
While the exercises were informative--some I cannot see myself using. Some I can.
I think that the Library should definitely push some of these things, like ListenNJ and LibraryThing.
I do think that the Wiki's could be incorporated into the branches---for meetings and programs.
All in all--this was a fun way to learn what's out there. A lot of times we are afraid to go into programs that we are uninformed about.

Now I have found more places to "stalk my boyfriend"!!!!!
Thanks!!

ListenNJ

Decided to try this at home---just to hard to do this at work.
Downloaded Redwall by Brian Jacques---one of my favorite books.
I can see this being a good thing on an ipod. On the computer--it was distracting to try to work and listen at the same time.
Unfortunetly-I only have an ipod shuffle so I don't think I can use that, but this would be a great thing for trips.
This is really something that I think that is underused. I don't believe that alot of people know about this option for books.
Don't want to wait 6 weeks for the new--whatever---download it!

Podcasts

I actually became aware of podcasts about a year ago.
After each episode would air of a show I loved, the producers would put out a podcast.
They would talk about the show, sometimes the actors or writers would be on also.
It was about the behind the scenes of the production of the show and the script.
I used to get it on the website of the network the show was on.
Really fun to listen to.

I also have itunes and have seen that you can download podcasts on there.
Haven't tried that yet.

Thing #18---

As with many of the new sites I have visited on this web journey, I found this site interesting but--
not sure how I would use it.
If I were doing research or writing a paper it could be handy to get all the info on one tag.
Because I am a Trekie and not really a Techie a lot of these sites seem over my head.
But I do see how it could come in handy for students.
Maybe I should go back and put in Star Trek as the subject, I'll bet that thread is full!
Or Mars!! :)

Tagging

Had a good time playing with Wordle!
Made 3 different word clouds--had fun playing with the colors and fonts. :)

I have used tagging in Facebook for pictures and of course I have been tagged.
Usually to the most embarressing pictures people can find!

Oh yeah---this can probably be used for a work purpose too!

Wikis Part 2

Interesting--

But now I just want to go do something fun and eat!

Wikis Part 1

I have to say I have heard the term "wiki" for quite awhile, but never really understood what it
was.
I liked looking at the Albany Library Wiki.
I could definitly see this being a useful way to communicate with a large staff.
In Lakewood it is hard to get everyone together to discuss things.
This might be something we could look into.
From staff meeting agenda to where we want to have our Christmas party--could work.
Also---I had no idea that OCL could be found on Wikipedia!
