This time when very fast. At times I was in a panic because I felt that I was falling behind.
Some of the exercises were fun, some where a real chore.
Although I use a computer at work--being in Circulation--what I use it for is not something that I would need at lot of these applications.
Using it at home--it is almost all for fun.
I can see alot of these program would come in handy from a reference standpoint, or if I were a student.
So I tended to enjoy the more fun programs--some of which I already use.
While the exercises were informative--some I cannot see myself using. Some I can.
I think that the Library should definitely push some of these things, like ListenNJ and LibraryThing.
I do think that the Wiki's could be incorporated into the branches---for meetings and programs.
All in all--this was a fun way to learn what's out there. A lot of times we are afraid to go into programs that we are uninformed about.
Now I have found more places to "stalk my boyfriend"!!!!!
Thanks!!

ListenNJ
Decided to try this at home---just to hard to do this at work.
Downloaded Redwall by Brian Jacques---one of my favorite books.
I can see this being a good thing on an ipod. On the computer--it was distracting to try to work and listen at the same time.
Unfortunetly-I only have an ipod shuffle so I don't think I can use that, but this would be a great thing for trips.
This is really something that I think that is underused. I don't believe that alot of people know about this option for books.
Don't want to wait 6 weeks for the new--whatever---download it!

Podcasts
I actually became aware of podcasts about a year ago.
After each episode would air of a show I loved, the producers would put out a podcast.
They would talk about the show, sometimes the actors or writers would be on also.
It was about the behind the scenes of the production of the show and the script.
I used to get it on the website of the network the show was on.
Really fun to listen to.
I also have itunes and have seen that you can download podcasts on there.
Haven't tried that yet.

Thing #18---
As with many of the new sites I have visited on this web journey, I found this site interesting but--
not sure how I would use it.
If I were doing research or writing a paper it could be handy to get all the info on one tag.
Because I am a Trekie and not really a Techie a lot of these sites seem over my head.
But I do see how it could come in handy for students.
Maybe I should go back and put in Star Trek as the subject, I'll bet that thread is full!
Or Mars!! :)

Tagging
Had a good time playing with Wordle!
Made 3 different word clouds--had fun playing with the colors and fonts. :)
I have used tagging in Facebook for pictures and of course I have been tagged.
Usually to the most embarressing pictures people can find!
Oh yeah---this can probably be used for a work purpose too!

Wikis Part 1
I have to say I have heard the term "wiki" for quite awhile, but never really understood what it
was.
I liked looking at the Albany Library Wiki.
I could definitly see this being a useful way to communicate with a large staff.
In Lakewood it is hard to get everyone together to discuss things.
This might be something we could look into.
From staff meeting agenda to where we want to have our Christmas party--could work.
Also---I had no idea that OCL could be found on Wikipedia!
was.

Picnik
What fun!!
I really enjoyed playing with this site.
I sort of felt like a mad scientist playing with a body.
Pictures and contrasts and colors--you could really spend hours on this.
They have seasonal imagines you can use too.
Saved a fun picture to my flashdrive!

Google Docs
What would I use this for??
I think honestly that I would have to play around with it for awhile.
Is it better than Word or Excel?
Easier to use or more confusing?
Excel confuses me on a daily basis so---
Kinda sad I know, but I have come a long way.
Remember--as my kids think--I used to go to school with stone tablets and the invention of the wheel!

This is another networking site that I already belong to.
I like it.
I enjoy some of the inane things that the people that I follow put on here.
I have to say-one thing I don't like is sometimes you get inundated with too many tweets.
I decided to follow West Virginia University.
My son goes there and I thought I would get important updates.
But---I was getting like 30 tweets a day from them on stuff I didn't need to know so---
they were unfollowed! I show no mercy!
I also follow an actor I like--the bum hasn't been on since June. He's killing me!
Some people on these sites are just pathetic aren't they? lol

Finally--
Something I already know how to do!
Actually--I had been resisting going on Facebook for a long time. Friends and relatives were bugging me, but I felt that I did not have the time for another thing.
But--I gave in and created an account. I really like it.
I like that I can keep in touch with my cousins---they are all crazy and they make me laugh all the time with the stuff that they write.
I have reconnected with elementary school friends and kids I grew up with.
In a sad but true kind of way---sometimes I "talk" to my husband who is in the other room by IM-ing.
I love seeing everyone's pictures.
I do not like people sending me animals from their farms and crap like that!
Go on my account and look at my "Life on Mars Fan Gathering in NYC" pictures!

NetLIbrary
I don't think that I am a fan of this site.
When putting in different titles, I found that I would get books listed that had some of the title
in the description. Now--I may have been looking them up incorrectly. Or maybe I am just
tired trying to catch up in the challange.
Know what would make me feel better? If I could download a book to my computer and
listen to it while I was working! :)
Hey--It was worth a try!

WorldCat
Looked up the new Brian Herbert book--Winds of Dune.
Closest library to my home is BKY. It also gave me Clara B Worth School in Bayville.
I liked that WorldCat also gives where you can buy the book.
Amazon--18.47
Barnes & Noble--20.15
Better World Books--21.48
Looked up a book that I loved as a kid--The Jade Monkey Mystery.
WorldCat said that the closest library was OCL-TR, but when I looked it up we do not own a copy. So---what do you do with that?

LibraryThing
Ohhhhh---I like this site!
It was a lot of fun browsing aroundon here.
I added some of the books I have read, and really liked all the recommendations I received.
I had read a good majority of those, but some I had not.
The TagMash was really interesting.
First I tried Fantasy/Romance and got tons of titles from Lois McMaster Bujoid to Diana Gabalon. Then I tried Star Trek/SciFi--and the site said it had never had that combination before! But after a short wait I was rewarded with over 500 titles. Cool!
I can definetly see myself using this site. Because I read a lot of books that are parts of Trilogys this will really help with keeping track of what I have read. Check out my account! http://www.librarything.com/home/sbtrekie

Beyond Google
I have used Bing and find it very similar to Google. It does have different things on the site.
I have used it to search for images and I have found different ones than on Google. So-Google?
Bing? Pretty much the same.
I went into the carrot site and kinda found it confusing.
I see how it is listing items and that's good, but I looked up "colleges" and came up with 6240000 sites.
I picked one that said colleges.com/scholarships and really didn't find any useful information.
I can't see me ever needing to use this type of site. Maybe if I were in school and doing reports.
But for my everyday playing around----TMI

Advanced Google
Got confused at first--had to talk to Elizabeth(I know she just loves me :) )
Once I got it figured out--I was surprised to find that the NJ site was less user friendly with NJ information than Google.
The PDF file on the Underground Railroad in NJ was right on top of the sites that showed up in Google. Don't know where it was on the NJ Gov. site.
The NJ town names--I did find a PDF in the NJ site--called NJ Place Names. It had a lot of information. Did like the one called Bad Town names in NJ on Google.

Read the article
Am signed up with Twitter--like it.
Some of the things that I follow are too much info.
I signed up for WVUNews because my son goes there and I thought it would be important
information, but they send like 20 tweets a day about stuff I didn't need to know, so I unfollowed them.
Have used Googlemaps alot

RSS
The video about RSS was very helpful.
I went to the site and I had a bit of trouble trying to find some feeds to subscribe to.
I signed up for Betty Crocker Recipe of the Day and LOL Cats--I haz a cheezbrger.
We'll see if I make anything new for dinner, but I do like the pictures of the cats!

Thing #3
I tried the websites of Galaxilei and My Heritage.
Galaxilei said it was for scifi and fantasy fans. I found it to be a little too much scifi for my liking.
I don't really like the real techie side of scifi, I am more of a fantasy type of reader. It was interesting-you can buy a star and name it after you! But it made my head spin after awhile.
My Heritage was a site to help with genealogy. I tried it with my Mother's side of the family, but because I don't have information I couldn't get very far. It looked really interesting.
